“The Ostrich Paradox – Why We Underprepare for Disasters”
Author and Wharton School Professor to Kick-Off Event

The FAIR Foundation, a Florida-based non-profit and champion for creating safer, stronger and more resilient communities through consumer education and empowerment, today announced its Virtual Conference Series- Building a Culture of Preparedness.

The event will commence with a keynote presentation by Dr. Howard Kunreuther, Wharton School Professor and co-author of The Ostrich Paradox- Why We Underprepare for Disasters.

“The Ostrich Paradox is a must-read for all policy-makers, emergency management professionals, risk managers, and anyone who wants to understand why we consistently underprepare for disasters,” said FAIR Foundation’s President and CEO Jay Neal. “We look forward to having Dr. Kunreuther kick-off our conference to take a closer look at how we deal with catastrophes and how we can better prepare.”

Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael, a category 5 Hurricane that caused
devastating damage with 162 mile per hour winds.

The six-week series will run from September 23-October 29 and will provide solutions for stakeholders to unite and promote consumer education, resiliency through mitigation, improved disaster preparedness, closing the insurance protection gap, and developing action plans and strategies for meaningful progress and cultural change. All participant attendees who register for the full conference series will receive a complimentary copy of The Ostrich Paradox.

“We are excited to bring together resiliency professionals, insurance leaders, and policy makers from across the country to provoke discussion and educate participants on improving society’s ability to be resilient,” said Neal.
