FloridaShines has helpful tips to complete the FAFSA

Posted on September 30, 2020

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens on Oct. 1, and it’s important for students to apply as soon as possible so they don’t miss out on the best financial assistance packages.

FAFSA is a free application that every college student must fill out in order to obtain federal funds. The information provided on the form determines a student’s, or their family’s ability to pay for college.

FloridaShines has a series of helpful videos that will provide students with all the information they will need to prepare for, fill out and submit the FAFSA https://www.floridashines.org/go-to-college/pay-for-college/fafsa. The videos easily guide students through the FAFSA process, offering important steps to take before filling out the application and specific tips to expedite the FAFSA process, as well as providing examples of common errors to avoid.

Students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA application as soon as possible to increase their chances of receiving financial aid. The best aid packages are generally awarded early, leaving any remaining funds to those who wait later to apply.

The FAFSA is the first step to applying for federal and state financial aid. Students will also need to complete a Florida Financial Aid Application. The U.S. Department of Education has also developed the online tool FAFSA4caster to help students better understand their options for paying for college.

The process for applying for financial assistance for college has never been easier!
