Two well-traveled interchanges on Interstate 4 (I-4) are nearing their shifts into new configurations that will help improve traffic flow and safety.
State Road (S.R.) 436 and Colonial Drive (S.R. 50) will shift into single-point urban interchanges, or SPUIs, as soon as Saturday morning and Tuesday morning, respectively.
SPUIs allow opposing left-hand traffic movements to proceed simultaneously, controlled by a single traffic signal. This allows larger volumes of traffic to flow more safely and efficiently through the intersections.
To facilitate these shifts, ramp and lane closures will occur at S.R. 436 overnight tonight, Dec. 18. Nightly closures at Colonial Drive are scheduled overnight for Dec. 20 – Dec. 21. Modifications or extensions to these schedules may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are encouraged to follow @I4Ultimate on Twitter or visit I4Ultimate.com for updates.
