FDLE praises Governor DeSantis’ budget recommendations for working to improve criminal justice data transparency while continuing to make public safety a priority.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Rick Swearingen said, “Governor DeSantis continues to show his commitment to public safety and law enforcement across the state. I appreciate our governor’s dedication to those working in law enforcement and his diligence in giving them the tools they need to help keep Florida’s citizens and visitors safe.”
Governor DeSantis recommends continued funding of the Criminal Justice Data Transparency initiative and the Florida Incident-Based Reporting System, which establish uniform collection of criminal justice data throughout Florida and makes data easily accessible to the public, including officer use-of-force statistics.
The governor also recommends funding to replace radios for the department’s sworn member workforce and address the growing workload in the unit that determines an individual’s eligibility to purchase a firearm.
