FAMU’s MMERI to Participate in 2021 Florida International Trade Expo

Posted on March 11, 2021

Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) Medical Marijuana Education and Research Initiative (MMERI) will join 150 of the state’s leading businesses and organizations participating in Enterprise Florida’s 2021 International Trade Expo, a multi-sector virtual showcase.

The first-ever virtual trade event in the United States will take place March 16-18 and is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants from all over the world.

“We are pleased to be invited to showcase the work we are doing to provide information and resources about medical marijuana and the unlawful use of marijuana in the nation’s third most populous state,” said Vice President for Research Charles A. Weatherford, Ph.D., MMERI principal investigator.

FAMU is using this event to identify opportunities for MMERI to further its mandate to educate the public about cannabis.

“Cannabis use is expanding globally, and in the U.S., and in our role, we are always seeking to make new connections that help us achieve our mandate and raise our profile in the cannabis industry. By participating in this Expo, we are positioning ourselves, to do just that,” said Patricia Green-Powell, Ph.D., executive director of MMERI.

Since its establishment in 2018, MMERI has facilitated education, research, community engagement and communications outreach to increase knowledge, change attitudes, and transform perceptions about marijuana among Floridians, especially minority populations. In 2020 alone, MMERI’s programs and activities reached more than 8.1 million Floridians to educate, learn, and talk candidly about cannabis.
