Philip “Griff” Griffitts today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in State House District 6, which encompasses the majority of Bay County’s land area and over 90 percent of its residents. Griffitts is the immediate past Chairman of the Bay County Commission.
“We’re excited to launch this campaign,” said Griff Griffitts. “I believe my experience serving as a county commissioner will help me serve effectively in the legislature. However, even more important is my experience in private enterprise, where we stay connected to the citizens, consumers, and small businesses who truly make our free market work. We must continue to push for lower taxes, less regulation, and a fully restored Bay County. State Representative Jay Trumbull has done a phenomenal job the last 8 years, and I want to continue that good work standing up for our community and the values that have made the Panhandle the best region of Florida.”
Griffitts, a third-generation resident of Bay County, has a long record of public service in the community. He has been a board member of the Bay County Planning Commission, the Bay County Tourist Development Council, the Panama City Beach Civil Service Board, Bay Medical Sacred Heart, and the Florida State-Panama City Foundation Development Board. He’s been Chair of the Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce.
Griffitts and his brother are co-owners of a home construction business after recently completing a successful sale of their hotel and hospitality business based in Panama City Beach. Griffitts graduated from Bay High School and Florida State University. He and his wife, Laura, have two grown daughters, and they all enjoy the wonderful outdoor recreation of Bay County.
