Lawmakers to Debate Long Overdue Legislation to Modernize Florida’s Alimony Laws

Lawmakers in the Florida Senate and House today and Tuesday are scheduled to consider legislation to end the award of permanent alimony in the state.

Under legislation (SB 1922/HB 1559) proposed by Sen. Joe Gruters, of Sarasota, and Rep. Anthony Rodriguez, of Miami,  Florida would join 44 other states that have enacted reform laws to ban the award of perpetual alimony.

Florida lawmakers will discuss the Gruters/Rodriguez plan to modernize the state’s obsolete alimony law when legislative committees begin hearing the bills:  

Monday, March 22, 2021 
3:30 pm – 6 pm 
The Florida Senate Judiciary Committee 
Knott Building, Room 412 
The Capitol

Florida House Civil Justice & Property Rights Subcommittee
