Florida A&M University (FAMU) Medical Marijuana Education and Research Initiative (MMERI) will host “Cannabis and Addiction” in the Conversations on Cannabis Virtual Forum at noon, Thursday, May 27.
The episode will be streamed on Streamyard, Facebook Live and YouTube, beginning at noon and will feature guest speaker Dr. Joseph Rosado.
Rosado, a published author of the bestselling book “Hope and Healing-A Case for Cannabis,” received numerous accolades, including the 2019 Physician of the Year at the Healthcare Achievement Awards, and was one of 65 Outstanding Black & Hispanic Men Leading in Cannabis by The WeedHead & Company. He became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine in 2018.
“Preliminary evidence suggests that medical cannabis could be an effective option for treating substance use disorders,” said MMERI Director Patricia Green-Powell, Ph.D. “We invite you to join this live interactive virtual conversation to hear from a renowned physician talk about medical cannabis use and misuse.”
Host Heidi Otway will facilitate the conversation about medical marijuana and how it may or may not be used as a gateway drug. Research shows that marijuana use does not lead to more dangerous drugs and in fact, some doctors are using medical marijuana to treat people with harmful substance use disorders.
The Conversations on Cannabis Virtual Forum is designed to educate, learn and talk with Floridians about the basics of marijuana for medical use and the unlawful use of marijuana.
