Florida Senator Shevrin Jones (D-West Park) today released the following statement regarding the Saturday evening shooting in Hialeah that killed two and wounded more than 20:
“My heart breaks for the lives lost, families grieving, and those injured due to the mass shooting in Hialeah, a neighboring community, last night. Gun violence remains a public health crisis in Florida and across the country due to the lack of political will from Republican state and federal office holders who refuse to take action on this urgent issue. Rather than just more ‘thoughts and prayers’ as our society has been conditioned to send after these all-too-frequent occurrences, I call on the Governor and Florida GOP leaders to join me and my Democratic colleagues at the table for a real discussion on this crisis and where we go from here. We cannot afford to sit idly by until the next mass casualty event on Gov. DeSantis’ watch.”
