The Florida Lottery reaches major milestone in contributions to education

Posted on September 8, 2021

More Than $40 Billion Generated in 33 Years!

The Florida Lottery announces today its latest transfer to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF) has brought its life-to-date education contributions to more than $40 billion over the past 33 years! So far in fiscal year 2021-22, the Lottery has averaged more than $5.6 million a day in contributions to education.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment in our mission to enhance education in Florida,” said Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis. “I fully believe that a solid education is the foundation to a successful life and the work we do every day at the Lottery provides vital support for all students – from the first day of kindergarten to college graduation. We remain steadfast in our focus to provide Floridians the best Lottery games available so that we can continue to create lasting educational opportunities for students to pursue their dreams of a brighter future.”

Since the Lottery’s inception, Florida’s public schools have received more than $21.2 billion, while colleges and universities have received a combined total of more than $10.5 billion. Additionally, more than $6.8 billion has been used to fund the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which has enabled more than 880,000 students to attend college since 1997.

The benefits of these Lottery dollars flow from community to community – from the Panhandle to the Keys. Since 1988, the Lottery has established itself as a committed and dependable funding source for public education, contributing more than $1 billion annually for the past 19 consecutive years while remaining one of the most efficiently operated Lotteries in the country.
