Celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Blind Services, and Vocational Rehabilitation will host the 16th annual Exceptional Employer Awards on October 14 at 10 a.m.

The state will recognize 10 businesses as Florida Exceptional Employers for hiring and retaining employees who have disabilities. The public and media may register to participate and view the virtual awards ceremony using Google Chrome at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8002651764777696014.

Department of Economic Opportunity Secretary Dane Eagle and CareerSource Florida President and CEO Michelle Dennard plan to speak during the ceremony. Also, individuals with disabilities will be highlighted during the celebration including North Tampa YMCA employee Robyn Stawski, Five Guys Burgers and Fries employee Robert Stokes, and Radiology Associates of Tallahassee employee Reagan Brown. The event sponsor is RESPECT of Florida which donated the plaques to the winners.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. Throughout October, APD, Vocational Rehabilitation, Blind Services, and its partner agencies will be promoting the valuable skills individuals with disabilities contribute to the workforce.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and work in their communities. The agency annually serves more than 58,000 Floridians with severe forms of autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
