Florida A&M University (FAMU) President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., will address high school and community college students in St. Petersburg, Tampa and Orlando Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as part of the University’s efforts to recruit top seniors.
At 10 a.m. Wednesday, Robinson will address students at the St. Petersburg College (SPC) Gibbs Campus, 6605 5th Ave. N., St. Petersburg.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, Robinson and the FAMU team will converge on Jefferson High School, 4401 Cypress Street, Tampa.
In addressing audiences, President Robinson often reminds students they can get anywhere from FAMU. He also says that FAMU faculty and staff recognize the promise of every FAMU student and understand society’s need for the contributions of FAMU graduates.
FAMU recruiting events are entertaining as well as informative. Prospective students will enjoy live performances highlighting the history and legacy of FAMU by members of the FAMU connection and Royal Court. They will also get to interact with recruiters from the University’s more than a dozen colleges and schools.
As part of the lead up to the annual Florida Classic, the University will hold a recruitment event at the host hotel, Hyatt Grand Cypress Ballroom at 9 a.m. Friday. Students from Orlando and surrounding areas are expected to attend.
Central Florida is fertile recruiting ground for the University. FAMU has signed 2+2 agreements with several schools in the area as part of its IGNITE Program to facilitate the transfer to FAMU of students who have earned their associate degree.
According to preliminary data from the FAMU Office of the Registrar, there are 425 Orlando students, 159 Tampa students and 69 St. Petersburg students enrolled at the University. Alumnus, movie mogul Will Packer, whose name adorns the new Performing Arts Amphitheater, is from St. Petersburg.
“We are excited to be in this area recruiting the best and the brightest students,” said FAMU Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson, Jr., Ph.D. “FAMU has a great rapport with these communities through our alumni associations, and we want to encourage students to discover who they can become at FAMU.”
