Representative Geraldine F. Thompson and the Wells Built Museum (an Institutional member of The Association for The Study of African American Life and History [ASALH]) invite you to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. On Dec. 9, 2021 at 1 p.m., Representative Thompson invites you to view the statue of Dr. Bethune located at the News Journal Center. Followed by the viewing of the statue will be an impact of Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s Vision at 2 p.m.
The State of Florida chose Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to be a representation of Florida as it will be a new addition of statues represented in Statuary Hall in the Nation’s Capital. The statue was carved in Italy and will be on display in Daytona until Dec. 12. Representative Thompson has arranged a tour of the statue on Dec. 9 for individuals who wish to see it before it is moved to Washington D.C.
