Posted on January 11, 2022

Incumbents and challengers kick off the election year with strong position

Florida Senate Democratic candidates have reported strong fundraising hauls heading into the election year, with contributions from four key races totaling more than $1.15M.

  • Senator Loranne Ausley, a Tallahassee Democrat who represents North Florida counties in SD 3, has raised $294,000 so far this cycle and has $264,703 on hand.
  • Senator Janet Cruz, Democratic incumbent representing Hillsborough’s SD 18, reported raising $120,000 in December, bringing her cycle total to $370,000 with $400,000 cash on hand.
  • Representative Michael Grieco, Democratic candidate for Miami’s SD 37, raised $153,000 in December and reported $220,000 cash on hand.
  • Janelle Perez, Cuban American business owner and candidate for Miami’s SD 40, reported $314,000 cash on hand with $335,082 raised overall.

“As we work to defend our Senate Democratic Caucus and grow our numbers, our candidates are committed to raising the funds needed to run effective and competitive races,” says Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book, head of Senate Victory – the political fundraising organization acting on behalf of Florida’s Senate Democratic Caucus. “Our campaigns have built great momentum behind a strong, diverse slate of Democratic candidates across the state who are fighting for the values, causes, and issues that matter most to everyday Floridians, like the freedom to earn a fair living, access to affordable healthcare, a clean environment, and strong public schools.”
