Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book last night joined CNN’s Anderson Cooper to discuss the contentious confirmation hearing for Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo and her decision to lead Democrats in walking out on the vote.
From Book’s remarks…
The Governor has put this individual in place as a political measure, as a mouthpiece and that is not what this should be.
The top doctor in the third largest state has a responsibility to care for 21 million Floridians and their health, safety, and wellbeing.
This is somebody who should be making sure we’re making sound, smart, data-driven decisions to keep Floridians safe.
Quite frankly, it was beneath the dignity of the Florida Senate. He was making a mockery of what we were doing…and that’s why we decided to walk out on that vote.
Floridians deserve straight answers from our state’s top public health official. Instead, Joseph Ladapo chose to make a mockery out of his confirmation hearing. So we walked out.
