In the wake of Neo-Nazi protesters in Orlando this weekend, Florida leaders and elected officials from both sides of the aisle have offered swift condemnation of these displays of antisemitism. Yet Republican State Senators Ileana Garcia (R-Miami) and Jason Brodeur (R-Lake Mary) have remained unacceptably silent, declining to speak out against these vile acts of hate. Serving in a district less than 30 miles from Orlando, Senator Brodeur’s silence is especially loud.
“With just months until election day, Floridians want to know what their elected leaders stand for,” says Tim Wagner, Political Director for Florida Senate Victory. “Condemning hate and antisemitism should be a no-brainer, but some Florida Republicans choose to align themselves with the same faction of their party which allowed January 6th to come to pass.”
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 68 active hate groups have been reported in Florida – the second-highest in the nation.
