Senator Annette Taddeo today commented on Governor Ron DeSantis’ nominee for Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Lapado. As Surgeon General Dr. Lapado would be directly responsible for addressing the COVID-19 Pandemic raging in our communities. Before this nomination, Dr. Lapado had a viral video removed from social media sites because it was spreading misinformation surrounding the pandemic. Since then, he has continued to demonstrate that his views are on the radical fringes of the medical community. Florida has already lost over 60,000 people to this terrible pandemic. It’s important that we have a surgeon general that will trust in science and use that to guide the State’s response.
Senator Taddeo had this to say: “Dr. Lapado is another stark example of what’s wrong with Tallahassee “leaders”. He has been brought in as a political front man for Governor DeSantis and tax payers are on the hook for paying him a salary worth hundreds of thousands of dollars — as evidenced in today’s hearing, it’s clear he is focused strictly on the well being of DeSantis’ political career and not on the health and safety of hard working Floridians.”
