On Tuesday, State Representative Dianne Hart’s Parole Eligibility bill, HB 169, unanimously passed out of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Subcommittee. With no fiscal impact to the State, this bill directs the Department of Corrections and the Florida Commission on Offender Review to create clear eligibility requirements for those seeking parole.
Representative Dianne Hart (D-Tampa) issued the following statement:
“I am excited to see some movement on important criminal justice reform legislation. I hope that we as a legislature can come together to solve the pressing issues facing the Department of Corrections. Conditions are not only unsafe for the officers, but for those incarcerated as well. My bill looks to alleviate some of the physical and financial strain on the Department by allowing those who have been incarcerated for decades and have changed their lives to be reintegrated into society while prioritizing public safety.”
