In response to the new Congressional maps being dropped this afternoon by the Florida House of Representatives ahead of the Congressional Redistricting Committee scheduled (at the moment) for Friday the 18th, Democratic Ranking Member Representative Kelly Skidmore (D- Boca Raton), issued the following statement:
“Now that Governor DeSantis’ quest to disenfranchise Black voters in north Florida has ended in defeat, we can finally get back to doing the work of passing a fair map for the people of Florida. It’s very early in the process, but there are significant differences from the Senate map, particularly in the areas around Orlando and Tampa. The I-4 corridor has seen significant growth recently, and we need to be sure that the maps drawn will best serve those communities.
I look forward to asking a lot of questions about the data behind these maps when the committee meets on the 18th.”
