Yesterday, Representative Kristen Arrington (D- Kissimmee) presented CS/HB 229 on the floor of the Florida House of Representatives. The bill is an Act to necessitate school boards to require guidance counselors to advise public high school students of all educational opportunities available to them to gain skills that are in demand in the labor market and how to prepare to obtain postsecondary degrees in technical fields. The bill passed unanimously by a vote of 116-0.
“This legislation will help our children prepare for a better future by letting them know of all the opportunities available to plan and prepare them for a more diversified economy and workforce,” said Representative Arrington. “This bill will also provide notifications of these programs to parents and students in a language that they best understand. I want to thank Speaker Sprowls, Chairman Latvala, and Chairman McClain for their support on this important legislation, and to Senator Bracy for his work on this bill in the Senate.”
The bill will now be under consideration in the Florida Senate.
