Representative Angie Nixon Responds to Gov. DeSantis’ Attempt to Eliminate Black Representation

Posted on March 29, 2022

Florida’s Senate President & House Speaker today issued a joint statement calling for a special session after Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed congressional maps.

Representative Angie Nixon (D- Jacksonville) said, “Governor DeSantis calls a special session not to address Florida’s housing crisis, provide immediate gas tax relief, or deal with skyrocketing property insurance rates, but to erase Black representation in Congress. His reckless ambition to run for president has led to banning books and censoring truthful American history in our schools. He’s attacked our freedom to vote and now, if you manage to overcome the barriers and cast your ballot in Florida, he wants to make sure it’s not for anyone that could best represent you. Shameful.”
