Official Statement from Representative Ben Diamond on the Passage of Governor DeSantis’ Congressional Map

Posted on April 21, 2022

Following the Legislature’s passage of Governor DeSantis’ congressional map, Representative Ben Diamond (D- St. Petersburg) released the following statement:

“I am deeply disappointed by my colleagues’ decision to fall in line with Governor DeSantis’ effort to illegally gerrymander Florida’s congressional districts. Today, Tallahassee politicians have put their own political interests first. They have violated the law, and disrespected the millions of Floridians who voted to support our Fair Districts Amendments. As lawmakers, we take an oath to support, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of Florida – not Governor DeSantis. The map passed by the Florida Legislature today violates both. The fight for fair congressional representation for Floridians does not end today. I look forward to this unconstitutional, partisan, and illegal map being overturned in court.”
