Hospital Announces Opening of $5 Million Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
HCA Florida Capital Hospital, an affiliate of HCA Florida Healthcare, announces the opening of its $5 million, 10-bed, Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), deepening the hospital’s ability to provide intensive care for sick and premature infants born at HCA Florida Capital Hospital.
Approximately, 1-in-5 babies are born prematurely each year in the United States, and this new advancement in services at HCA Florida Capital Hospital will support premature infants in the region.
With the addition of the NICU, HCA Florida Capital Hospital will be able to maintain continuity-of-care for patients. The Level II NICU is staffed by board-certified neonatologists, board-certified pediatricians and registered nurses who specialize in sick and premature infants. Qualified providers will be in the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support the on-going health of NICU babies. In addition, the Level II NICU will have specially-trained pharmacists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists on-site to support the healthy development of the NICU babies.
“The Level II NICU is a newly renovated space, with state-of-the-art equipment, including isolette beds, continuous cardiorespiratory monitoring, neonatal ventilators for patients needing respiratory support, and comprehensive radiology and subspecialty services. HCA Florida Capital Hospital is the only hospital in the area to have cameras for each patient isolette, allowing parents to view their babies from anywhere, anytime,” said, Elizabeth Paine, Chief Operating Officer.
“Our NICU nursing team is made up of highly-skilled nurses with a combined 110 years of NICU experience to support our tiniest of patients,” said Emily Beale, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services. “At HCA Florida Capital Hospital, we care like family. We have always been known for providing exceptional family-centered care—because in a NICU, we are not only caring for the baby, but for the entire family.”
“HCA Florida Capital Hospital is known throughout our community as where families are born,” said Alan Keesee, Chief Executive Officer. “I’ve met so many people who’ve told me that their children were delivered at HCA Florida Capital Hospital– and they chose us because of the compassionate and advanced care we provide to our mothers and babies. We’re proud to be expanding our capabilities to better serve our community.”
