Rallies to take place across Florida in support of abortion rights as Supreme Court prepares to overturn Roe v. Wade

Posted on May 13, 2022

Events part of “Bans Off Our Bodies” protests taking place nationwide

Florida abortion rights activists will hold “Bans Off Our Bodies” rallies in cities across Florida and around the country this weekend. The coordinated effort is in response to the leaked opinion which revealed that the Supreme Court is about to overturn Roe v. Wade, going against nearly a half-century of precedent and despite broad opposition from the American people.

“This isn’t even the end goal for the anti-abortion movement. They’ve made no secret they want to pass a nationwide abortion ban that would block abortion access in every state in the country,” said Lauren Brenzel, Organizing Director, Planned Parenthood.

Most Americans oppose overturning Roe and are against restricting abortion access. A University of North Florida poll conducted after Florida’s 15-week abortion ban passed found that 60% of registered voters in Florida opposed it. A Washington Post-ABC poll finds that 75% of people say decisions on abortion should be left to the woman and her doctor, including 95% of Democrats, 81% of independents and 53% of Republicans.

“Planned Parenthood has been preparing for this and will always be here for patients who need care. Abortion is still legal in Florida and clinics and offices remain open,” said Laura Goodhue, Executive Director, Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates.
