Florida Planned Parenthood PAC announces initial slate of legislative endorsements

Posted on June 6, 2022

The Florida Planned Parenthood PAC today announced its first slate of legislative endorsements for Florida’s critically important 2022 midterm election. The endorsements come following passage earlier this year of Florida’s 15-week abortion ban (HB 5). Moreover, the landmark Roe v. Wade is in jeopardy of being overturned by the United States Supreme Court.

“If there was ever a time to send abortion rights champions to Tallahassee, that time is now,” said Laura Goodhue, Director of the Florida Planned Parenthood PAC. “By electing these candidates, Floridians will make clear that the attacks on the fundamental freedom to control our own bodies and our own futures must end.”

This year’s endorsed candidates exemplify the PAC’s ongoing commitment to holding Florida’s state legislators accountable and ensuring Floridians have the access to the full range of reproductive health care, including safe and legal abortion. Every candidate receiving the PAC’s endorsement strongly supports medically appropriate and scientifically based health care policies and opposes legislation that limits access to abortion or any other form of reproductive health care.

“Today marks an important step toward educating Florida voters about candidates’ positions on reproductive rights,” said Goodhue. “These candidates earned our endorsement by proving their opposition to legislation restricting reproductive freedom. We are proud to endorse them.”

A list of candidates being endorsed by the Florida Planned Parenthood PAC can be found here. Additional endorsements will be announced in the future.

Despite the continued assault on access to reproductive health care and abortion, polling consistently shows most Floridians support abortion rights. A poll conducted by the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab after Florida’s abortion ban passed showed that 60-percent of registered voters in Florida oppose the ban.

“Most Floridians believe politicians should stay out of important medical decisions,” added Goodhue. “By sending this remarkable group of reproductive health care champions to Tallahassee, we will ensure lawmakers value bodily autonomy and reproductive health and stop these legislative attacks on our most basic rights and freedoms.”
