Representative Michele Rayner to Host Town Hall Discussing Aftermath of ‘Don’t Say Gay’

Posted on October 4, 2022

Representative Michele K. Rayner (D-Saint Petersburg) is hosting a town hall event with School Board Member Karen Perez, Teaching for the Culture, and Freedom to Read to discuss the impacts of Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill passed earlier this year.

The event will take place on National Coming Out Day, Oct. 11, 2022, from 6-7:30 PM at Wharton High School, 20150 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa. Anyone wishing to attend can sign up for more information here.

Parents, students, and educators are encouraged to ask questions and share their stories about how the Don’t Say Gay bill has impacted them.

Partners:

Karen Perez is a member of the Hillsborough County School Board, representing countywide District 6. Ms. Perez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and sits on the Board for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Straight Allies Committee, among others.

Teaching for the Culture is an advocacy organization that tackles inequality in education and empowers students, teachers, community members, parents, and activists with information about what is needed at each grade level.

Florida Freedom to Read Project works to support public school districts in keeping every decision student-centered, as they face the “Parents’ Rights” movement.
