Florida National Guard Response to Hurricane Ian

Posted on October 7, 2022

Joint Task Force Florida (JTTF) has 4,351 personnel activated and is executing missions in response to Hurricane Ian.

The Task Force has supported 253 missions, including executing search and rescue (SAR) missions throughout southwest and central Florida. JTTF members have rescued and evacuated more than 2,300 citizens from flooded areas.

The JTTF continues to bring security, route clearance capabilities and necessities of life supplies to Pine and Sanibel islands.

Seventeen Point of Distribution (POD) sites manned by Guardsmen are operational, distributing food, water, ice, and tarps to local populations. As of yesterday, these sites distributed 3,779 pallets of water, 3,380 pallets of food, 937 pallets of ice, and 878 pallets of tarps. More than 120,000 vehicles have passed through the PODs to pick up this humanitarian aid.

Task Force engineering resources have also been deployed to assist with route clearance in Pine Island and Charlotte County.  The FLNG has cleared 51.5 miles (5985 cubic yards) to date in the impacted area.  Guardsmen continue to assist law enforcement with roving patrols, security, traffic control and curfew enforcement missions.

In addition, the Task Force is also supporting missions that include staffing and supporting the State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee, the State Logistics Response Center (SLRC) in Orlando and eight county Emergency Operations Centers.
