Hunter is certified to detect numerous explosive compounds, like black powder and TNT. Officer Zachary and Hunter conduct routine vehicle and unattended packages checks at the Capitol Complex to maintain a safe and secure environment for elected officials, state employees and visitors.

FDLE Capitol Police Acting Director Seth Montgomery said, “Capitol Police’s highly trained explosive-detection K-9 teams conduct an average of 1,500 sweeps annually, in addition to their routine administrative and operational assigned tasks. They are friendly stewards that provide security while welcoming elected officials and visitors to Florida’s Capitol Complex.”

With the other Capitol Police K-9 Teams, they participate also in the North Florida Domestic Security Task Force and assist federal, state and local agencies when requested.

Hunter joined his Capitol Police handler two months ago. He is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois- German Shepherd mix from Hungary. He is certified by the American Detection Canine Association, and he will be recertified annually.
