Leader Driskell on Governor Signing Insurance Bill With No Immediate Aid to Consumers

Posted on December 16, 2022

Following the signing of Senate Bill 2-A by the Governor, Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell (D-Tampa) said the following:

“Floridians are losing yet again. I worry for our neighbors on fixed incomes. How many people are going to lose their homes before this ‘trickle down’ plan offers any relief? I’m worried about Florida’s retirees. This bill definitely wasn’t written to help them.

Republicans in the Legislature prioritized giving insurance companies what they wanted instead of giving hardworking Floridians relief from paying the highest property insurance premiums in the country.

Democrats tried to provide a balanced approach, with direct relief to homeowners and aid to the industry in crisis, but we were ignored. Floridians deserve property insurance that is affordable, available, and accountable.”
