Secretary Byrd Recognizes March 15 as Florida Main Street Day 2023

Posted on March 15, 2023

Secretary of State Cord Byrd today announced March 15, 2023, as this year’s Florida Main Street Day, recognizing the continued achievements and accomplishments of Main Street communities throughout the state. The purpose of Florida Main Street Day is to raise awareness of local, statewide, and national Main Street programs and celebrate their continued role in helping to revitalize historic downtowns—the community’s heart and soul.

“Florida’s Main Street organizations have proven to be valued community partners throughout the past year, supporting their districts in times of adversity and blessings,” said Secretary Byrd. “These local, grassroots organizations have shown significant dedication and perseverance over the past year, and I look forward to their continued successes.”

Since 1985, Florida Main Street has worked with more than 100 communities to encourage economic development within the context of historic preservation, through the revitalization of Florida’s downtown business districts. Florida Main Street currently oversees 57 participating communities. In addition, Orlando Main Street oversees 12 Main Street Districts within their program areas.

The combined efforts of both Florida Main Street and the Orlando Main Street program areas have produced approximately $8,963,793,133 in both public and private construction projects. This represents 24,342 completed projects that have resulted in 12,591 net new or expanded businesses, the creation of 44,781 net new jobs, and more than 1,729,753 public purpose volunteer hours.
