FAMU Annual Day of Giving “1887Strikes” Raises Over $680K

Posted on April 27, 2023

Florida A&M University’s Annual Day of Giving “1887Strikes” received more than $686,000 in contributions from 2,502 donors as of midday Tuesday.

“Thanks to the generosity of all the donors who made the Annual Day of Giving an overwhelming success. Donating to help students is a smart investment in their future and a vote of confidence in our University,” said President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., who matched student donations.

Donors designated their gifts to colleges and schools, endowed scholarships, athletics or FAMU Cares, which provides emergency assistance to students.

This year’s goal was 1887 donors and an overall target of $500,000. The drive was also to retain old donors to increase the giving rate, especially among alumni.

In 2022, the Annual Day of Giving raised $666,000. With this year’s drive, the 1887Strikes campaign has raised about $2 million since its inception in 2020. This year’s record $686,698.56 fundraising total were bolstered by contributions from 795 first-time or new donors.

Shawnta Friday-Stroud, Ph.D., vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the FAMU Foundation, said “1887 Strikes” was a resounding success.

“We did it. We exceeded our $500,000 and our 1,887 donor goals,” said Friday-Stroud, Ph.D., who is also dean of the School of Business and Industry. “We are eternally grateful to our alumni and friends who answered the call yet again to give to support our amazing and deserving students, academic programs, and student success initiatives. Thank You!”
