Representative Kristen Arrington (D- Kissimmee) today passed CS/HB 141/SB 196 on the floor of the Florida House of Representatives with a unanimous vote. The bill is an Act to necessitate school boards to require guidance counselors to advise public middle and high school students of all educational opportunities available to them to gain skills that are in demand in the labor market and how to prepare to obtain postsecondary degrees in technical fields.
“This legislation will help our children prepare for a better future by letting them know of all the opportunities available to plan and prepare them for a more diversified economy and workforce,” said Representative Arrington. “This bill will also provide notifications of these programs to parents and students in a language that they best understand. I want to thank Speaker Renner, Chairwoman Trabulsy, and Chairman Massullo for their support on this important legislation, and to Senator Jones for his work on this bill in the Senate.”
The bill will now be sent to the Governor’s desk for signature.
