Traffic Advisory: I-4 Traffic Pacing Operations Scheduled for May 8-11

Posted on May 5, 2023

Motorists should be advised that traffic pacing operations are scheduled to occur on eastbound Interstate 4 (I-4) between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. the mornings of Monday, May 8, through Thursday, May 11.

On eastbound I-4, the operation will begin at State Road (S.R.) 557 and will conclude at S.R. 429.

Traffic pacing is a traffic control technique used to slow — but not stop — traffic to facilitate short duration work operations without an extensive detour or diversion. Marked law enforcement vehicles, called pace cars, will slow motorists to about 10 to 12 mph to safely move traffic through the corridor.

During the operation, affected eastbound I-4 entrance ramps will be temporarily blocked at S.R. 557, U.S. 27 and County Road (C.R.) 532 by law enforcement officers to ensure no vehicles jump ahead of the traffic pacing operation. As the pace car passes an interchange, the entrance ramp will be reopened to allow motorists to enter I-4 and join the slow roll. The traffic pacing operation and temporary ramp closures of eastbound I-4 entrance ramps create a 45-minute window for crews to move equipment and install overhead signs. Single lane closures on eastbound I-4 from C.R. 532 to S.R. 417 will occur in advance, during and after the traffic pacing operations from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Multiple pacing operations may occur each night. Expect delays on eastbound I-4 between S.R. 557 and S.R. 429. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Please continue to use caution while driving through active construction zones. Remember to always be alert while riding or driving.
