In response to the Governor signing SB 214: Sales of Firearms and Ammunition, Senator Victor Torres (D-Orlando) today shared this statement:
“This new law is a step back to the progress Florida has made since the deadly Parkland shooting in dealing with gun violence. We are banning what could have been another tool in the toolbox for law enforcement to help prevent shootings before they happen and in investigations after the trigger is pulled. As a 20+ year law enforcement officer, I’ve personally witnessed the damage that guns have done to families and communities. I opposed this bill because it’s not about public safety and it does little for accountability – it’s about politics and appealing to an audience that values the Second Amendment more than human life.”
