Florida Public Power Leader Elected to National Board

Posted on June 22, 2023

Amy Zubaly, Florida Municipal Electric Association Executive Director, was installed this week as a new member of the American Public Power Association (APPA) Board of Directors.

The APPA is the national trade association representing not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. It represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people that public power utilities serve, and the 96,000 people they employ.

APPA board members are chosen to represent 10 regions across the country and Zubaly has been chosen to represent Region 5, which includes Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Zubaly will serve a three-year term.

“It is a great honor and privilege to serve as a member of the APPA board of directors and to be among a group of dedicated public power leaders whom I highly respect. I look forward to the next three years representing public power utilities throughout the region,” said Zubaly.

Zubaly has been an active member of APPA for 23 years. She is a past recipient of the APPA Harold Kramer-John Preston Personal Service Award, which recognizes individuals for their exceptional service to APPA. She currently serves on the APPA Advisory Committee, Legislative & Resolutions Committee, Mutual Aid Committee and is a member of APPA’s PowerPAC.

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) represents the unified interests of 33 public power communities across the state, which provide electricity to more than 4 million of Florida’s residential and business consumers.
