Senator Osgood’s Response to on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Regarding Affirmative Action Programs in College Admissions

Posted on June 29, 2023

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court decided policies that consider an applicant’s race or ethnicity is unconstitutional. This decision effectively puts an end to affirmative action in higher education. In response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Florida Senator Rosalind Osgood (D-Tamarac) issued the following statement Thursday:

“In the Words of Marvin Gaye, What’s Going On. The Supreme Court continues to make partisan decisions. Affirmative action benefits everyone in our diverse communities, schools and workplaces. We use our diversity to create unity and build beloved communities. We value and appreciate our collective experiences.

We cannot deny facts. There is no level playing field. Hard working qualified minorities are often not given opportunities. For decades, affirmative action has given access to opportunities for students across the country.”
