The United States Supreme Court today handed down a decision striking President Biden’s loan forgiveness program which would have benefited 43 million Americans by canceling up to $20,000 in student loan debt for eligible borrowers.Florida Senator Shevrin Jones (D- Miami Gardens) released the following statement:
This week’s atrocious rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court are yet another reminder that elections matter and have real consequences. The fact that six unelected individuals subsidized by billionaires are so aggressively dismantling our democracy is deeply unsettling. As a result, millions of Americans will be less economically secure, less free, and less able to access opportunities this country ought to afford everyone, regardless of circumstances. I applaud President Biden’s commitment to the people, especially young Americans.
