Clean Energy Organizations from Tally 100% Together
Coalition Commend City for Forward-Thinking Proposal
Clean energy organizations today commended the City of Tallahassee on a plan to achieve 100% renewable energy. After embracing information from stakeholders and clean energy advocates throughout the development of this plan, city administrators will present their plan to the City Commission on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m.
The plan’s development began when the Commission adopted a resolution, which the Tally 100% Together Coalition helped to pass, supporting 100% clean energy in 2019. The plan will outline how the city will transition to 100% renewable energy for all municipal operations by 2035 and communitywide by 2050, with the goal being to improve air quality, have healthier residents, and create green jobs.
“Part of our mission is to educate, engage, and empower Floridians to take action and achieve a just transition to clean energy,” said ReThink Energy Florida Campaigns Director Brian Lee. “We just celebrated our 13th year and to have the support of the City of Tallahassee lets us know we are not fighting alone, we are in this together. It’s reassuring and comforting.”
In conjunction with the presentation of the plan to the city commission, ReThink Energy Florida also invites members of the media to arrive on Aug. 23 at 2:30 p.m. for an opportunity to witness the Tally Green Sing which features a sing-along and musical of a Tallahassee-themed renewable energy song. Community members will come together to celebrate the city of Tallahassee’s plan to achieve 100% renewable energy in anticipation of the committee meeting.
