The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is participating in National Lifeline Awareness Week, Sept. 11–15, 2023. Lifeline makes communications services more affordable for low-income residents by providing a $9.25 monthly discount on qualifying monthly telephone service, broadband internet service, or bundled voice-broadband packages.
“By helping connect program recipients to family, friends, and community, Lifeline provides a vital service to those who need it,” said PSC Chairman Andrew Fay. “Communications access offers healthy social connections and peace-of-mind, especially for our older residents.”
This week, the PSC will hold outreach events in Columbia, Nassau, St. Lucie, and Sarasota Counties to help raise awareness and increase participation in the federal Lifeline program. Information and applications will be available at the events, and a PSC representative will help qualified residents who want to apply for Lifeline.
To be eligible for Lifeline, consumers must have a household income at or below 135 percent of the federal Poverty Guidelines, or participate in one of these federal assistance programs:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit
- Live on federally-recognized Tribal lands and participate in one of these Tribal Programs
You will need to provide documentation that you participate in one of these programs when you apply for Lifeline. Program eligibility needs to be re-certified every year, and Lifeline allows for only one discount per household. More information on Lifeline program eligibility is on the Federal Communications Commission’s website.
