FSU Police Department Achieves Law Enforcement Reaccreditation, Demonstrates Commitment to Excellence

Posted on October 11, 2023

The Florida State University Police Department achieved an honor of distinction last week as it was awarded reaccreditation by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) during the organization’s annual conference in Sanibel.

In addition to earning reaccreditation, FSUPD received the CFA’s prestigious Excelsior recognition, which marks the highest level of achievement in Florida accreditation for a law enforcement agency.

“Reaccreditation is a significant milestone that reflects the unwavering commitment and dedication exhibited by every member of the Florida State University Police Department,” said Rhonda Harris, chief of police and assistant vice president for public safety. “This achievement, along with Excelsior recognition, emphasizes the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, visitors and community while upholding the highest standards of excellence.”

CFA Accreditation is the certification by an independent reviewing commission authority that a Florida law enforcement agency has met specific requirements and mandatory standards. After initial accreditation, agencies are reassessed by the commission every three years during an in-depth, onsite review of every aspect of the agency’s organization, management, operations and administration. It is a voluntary process that affirms an agency’s commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and service.

“Looking ahead, we are excited about the opportunities to build upon this success as we continue to provide our community with the highest level of law enforcement services,” Harris said. “I extend my gratitude to our dedicated team for their unwavering professionalism, commitment, and teamwork, without whom accreditation would not be possible.”
