As Florida’s Senate legislative committee weeks kick off, Senator Lori Berman (D – Boynton Beach) launched her Safety and Security Agenda for the 2024 legislative session. Senator Berman’s agenda includes 14 bills that were filed on October 9th, 2023 – featuring legislation focused on firearm safety, families and youth.
Of her agenda, Senator Berman said, “My focus this session is to ensure that all Floridians have protections that will empower them to be healthy, prosperous and safe. It is my hope that by expanding certain programs and creating more access, our residents will have the tools they need to be successful.”
Listed below are highlights of Senator Berman’s 2024 legislative agenda:
- SB 150 – Bans Assault Weapons
- SB 130 – Limits the possession of firearms in sensitive locations including childcare facilities, libraries, parks and government buildings
- SB 136 – Raises teacher salaries
- SB 128 – Expands parental leave for state employees
- SB 152 – Creates a caregiving youth task force
- SB 140 – Creates a survey to explore Medicaid expansion for young adults
- SB 146 – Limits predatory loans
- SB 148 – Codifies the IHRA definition of antisemitism
- SB 134 – Expands Florida’s hate crime laws to protect vulnerable communities
- SB 144 – Addresses climate change and reduce carbon emissions
