Second Harvest of the Big Bend receives Disaster Food Relief grant for communities impacted by Hurricane Idalia

Posted on October 17, 2023

Second Harvest of the Big Bend received a $50,000 grant from State Farm to support Second Harvests efforts to provide immediate relief in areas most impacted by the hurricane.

Seven counties that Second Harvest serves were impacted by Hurricane Idalia; Hamilton, Suwannee, Lafayette, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, and Dixie counties. Second Harvest will utilize this funding to support these seven counties in the recovery of Hurricane Idalia.

“As our communities work to recover from the damage from hurricane Idalia,  Second Harvest is here to ensure that those impacted are focused on rebuilding their homes and their community, they do not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from” says Monique Ellsworth, CEO of Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Ellsworth also says “Through our partnerships with local organizations and businesses like State Farm, we have been able to provide over one million pounds of food to the impacted counties since landfall”

“Helping people recover from the unexpected is part of State Farm mission” said Apsara Sorensen, State Farm Corporate Responsibility Director. “State Farm is proud to support Second Harvest of the Big Bend efforts to help our communities recover from the hurricane. This grant is part of $250,000 in disaster grants provided by State Farm to several organizations for immediate critical needs, including food pantry supplies and helping communities rebuild.”
