Over the weekend Ybor City, Tampa became the most recent setting for America’s epidemic of Gun violence and mass shootings. An altercation between two groups of individuals lead to gunfire in the crowded streets of Ybor City on 7th ave. Four people were shot, resulting in 2 deaths and dozens of others were injured. 22-year-old Tyrell Phillips has been arrested in connection to this shooting which claimed the lives of two individuals one of which was 14.
Representative Dianne Hart issued the following statement, “My heart is with those families who are mourning, as well as those who have been injured and are trying to recover. Gun violence should not be normalized and I’m still committed to working every day to find solutions to this epidemic that continues to claim innocent lives.
Over the weekend an altercation between a group of individuals resulted in a mass shooting that claimed 2 innocent lives and resulted in dozens more injured. One of those victims has been identified as a 14-year old. Ybor city is at the heart of my district. It is a place of history, culture, and fun but that was taken over the weekend.
We must do more, and do better about addressing this rise in gun violence. We can’t simply keep offering thoughts and prayers and no action. How many more people have to die? How many more children have to lose their lives before we act? One was too many but this, is simply unacceptable.”
