Senator Erin Grall (R-Fort Pierce) and Representative Berny Jacques (R-Seminole) today announced they have filed legislation, Senate Bill 436 and House Bill 415, to establish an online hub of resources for pregnant women and families. The proposed legislation aims to create a convenient and accessible platform where individuals can find vital information and support throughout their pregnancy and parenting journey.
“We understand the critical need to support Florida’s pregnant women and families across the state, to ensure every child and family has an opportunity to thrive,” said Senator Grall. “By creating an online hub of available resources, our hope is we will empower individuals with the knowledge and support necessary to navigate the challenges and joys of pregnancy and parenting.”
“This website will be an invaluable resource for pregnant women and families in Florida,” said Representative Jacques. “By amassing these critical resources and reliable information in one place, we are making it easier for individuals to access the support they need during this important time in their lives.”
Under the legislation, the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) will collaborate to maintain the website of pregnancy and parenting resources.
The website will serve as a valuable resource, offering educational materials on pregnancy and parenting, including evidence-based information on prenatal care, child development, and parenting techniques. In addition, the platform will provide access to maternal health services, ensuring that expectant mothers receive the necessary support and care during their pregnancy and beyond.
Recognizing the importance of involving fathers in the parenting process, the website will also feature educational and mentorship programs specifically designed for fathers. These programs will equip fathers with the knowledge and skills needed to actively participate in their child’s upbringing, fostering stronger family bonds.
Furthermore, the website will include information on financial assistance programs, early education opportunities and adoption services.
