This past week Black State Legislators from around the nation converged on Nashville, Tennessee for the 47th annual Legislative Conference of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. This annual conference fostered discussions on various policy initiatives taking place in State Houses and State Senates around the country. In the closing of the conference during the annual awards gala, Representative Dianne Hart (D-Tampa) was awarded the Regional Legislator of the Year award for her work as Chair of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus as well as Chair of Region Six of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.
Representative Dianne Hart, Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, issued the following statement:
“I am truly humbled to have received this recognition. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as the Chair of this important caucus. The work I do is not for accolades or praise but simply because there is work to do. Each of us has a calling or charge that we must keep. A call of purpose that only you can fulfill. It is my hope that my life and service will be a visual reminder to people to never abandon your calling. In the words of the classic song, ‘if I can help somebody as I pass along… my living shall not be in vain.’”
