Addressing the pressing concern of gun violence in the country, Representative Dan Daley (D- Coral Springs) met with fellow legislators and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House State Legislative Convening on Gun Violence Prevention, the first and largest convening of its kind. Representative Daleyjoined lawmakers from around the nation to discuss new initiatives to reduce gun violence.
The White House discussions encompassed a wide array of critical areas, including investing in evidence-based solutions, bolstering support for survivors, advocating responsible gun ownership measures, enhancing background checks, and implementing industry accountability and standards. These initiatives range from creating statewide offices for gun violence prevention to promoting secure storage and education on gun safety, emphasizing the need for targeted violence intervention planning and trauma recovery centers, and addressing issues like ghost gun bans and gun dealer licensing.
“The scourge of gun violence is one of the most crucial issues facing our country, and I’m proud of the ongoing efforts of President Biden, Vice-President Harris, and the Administration,” stated Representative Daley.” As a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and former member of the Coral Springs City Commission, the aftermath of tragic and violent shootings has been front and center in our community for years now. Florida has a long way to go and today’s convening was an opportunity to work with colleagues from across the country to help make this happen.”
