Representative Susan L. Valdés (D-Tampa) is hosting a Three Kings Day Celebration and giveback event for children and families. Free backpacks packed with school supplies and toys will be available for the first 150 registered children. Representative Valdés is partnering with ZooTampa to host this family-fun event.
“Three Kings Day is a cherished tradition amongst many in the Hispanic community,” said Representative Valdés. “This is a wonderful opportunity to honor traditions that we hold close in the Hispanic community while we come together to fellowship and make memories with our neighbors.”
“ZooTampa is pleased to host the children and families celebrating Three Kings Day through this generous event sponsored by Rep. Valdés,” said Mark Haney, Chief External Relations Officer at ZooTampa.”
Three Kings Day or “El Día de los Tres Reyes Magos” commemorates the biblical story of the three wise men, or Maji, who followed the star to Bethlehem to bring gifts to the newborn Jesus. Also known as Epiphany, it is celebrated on January 6th and marks the end of the twelve days of Christmas. The tradition varies across cultures, with customs including exchanging gifts, family gatherings, Three King’s Cake (Rosca de Reyes in Spanish), and reenactments of the Kings’ journey.
The Three Kings Day Celebration and Toy Giveaway will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Saunders Pavilion at ZooTampa.
