Understanding smaller communities often suffer from a lack of funding for pressing infrastructure and public safety needs, State Representative Gallop Franklin (D- Tallahassee) on Jan. 18 met with Midway Fire Chief Nathaniel Yarusso to discuss the city’s urgent call for funding for a new fire and hazmat vehicle to serve the community.
“The ultimate role of government is to promote the safety and security of our communities,” Rep. Franklin said. “Often, smaller counties and communities need the state to be an investment partner to strengthen fire services and other public safety priorities. I am happy to make Midway’s strong case in the Florida Capitol for this critical funding.”
For the 2024 Legislative Session, Rep. Franklin has made a $1.5 million budget request in the Florida House for the new vehicle. Rep. Franklin also has requested $750,000 in the state budget to upgrade Midway’s fire station. Rep. Franklin last year worked to gain legislative approval of $350,000 in the state budget for funding to enhance the Midway Fire Department.
