Representative Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville) reminds Senator Marco Rubio and the Florida GOP that Florida’s progressive leaders and Democratic lawmakers have been calling for solutions to Florida’s housing and insurance crisis for years and it has fallen on deaf ears.
“It isn’t ‘getting tough for folks out there,’ it has been tough for a very long time. Florida Democrats have been urging, begging, and pleading with the Republican party in charge to do something, anything, that would actually bring Floridians relief. It’s not surprising that now that a leader of their party is affected to the tune of three-hundred percent, it’s being discussed. Tell that to the mother who has had to drag her kids from one shelter to another, or the senior who has to choose between staying in their home and paying for life-saving medication,” said Rep. Nixon. “Florida progressives have always understood that no matter who we are, what we look like, or how much money we have, we all deserve a roof over our heads that is safe and affordable. Floridians deserve real reforms right now to the property insurance market that puts them first with money back in their pockets while increasing oversight and holding these insurance companies accountable.”
