Florida Disaster Foundation Announces Donation of Trailers to Assist Survivors of Tornadoes From January Severe Weather

Posted on February 21, 2024

The Florida Disaster Foundation, a direct support organization of the Florida Division of Emergency Management (Division), announced the successful donation of six trailers to the North Florida Inland Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG). These trailers will serve as housing for survivors of tornadoes and other impacts as a result of severe weather on January 9, 2024.

“The Florida Disaster Foundation is a newly active direct support organization that can utilize donations to support survivors’ recovery just like we are now doing for those impacted by tornadoes in early January,” said Division Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “These trailers exemplify the quick, necessary support the Division is better able to provide thanks to the donations collected through the foundation.”

As of this week, trailers acquired through the Florida Disaster Foundation are officially transferred to the LTRG for  family placement and case management.

These trailers have been made available to residents who lost their homes from the tornadoes that impacted residents across North Florida. Individuals that are eligible for a donated trailer are coordinating with the long term recovery group. This was announced in a previous release and these six trailers serve as the first to be administered thanks to generous donations through the Florida Disaster Foundation.

During the Legislative Special Session 2022A, the Florida Legislature established the Florida Emergency Management Assistance Foundation (Florida Disaster Foundation) as a direct-support organization of the Florida Division of Emergency Management to provide assistance, funding, and support in disaster response, recovery, and relief efforts for natural emergencies. The Florida Disaster Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. These funds are designed to directly contribute to the immediate recovery of communities impacted by disasters and provide needed support where federal assistance stops.

Individuals and organizations can donate by visiting FloridaDisasterFoundation.org/Donate or by mailing a check to: Florida Disaster Foundation, 2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL 32399.
